Education Services Provider

Andrew Bell - About Me

My Background

My ethos is reflected in the Seneca the Younger quote - "While they teach, men learn".  I have been involved in education for forty years and have served in a wide range of situations - rural and urban, working for high achieving students as well as students at educational risk.  A major part of my professional life has been in assisting teachers with pedagogy and student management.

My Experience

Roles that I have successfully carried out include: Program Coordinator (school-wide leadership for Pedagogy as well as Student Services Manager),  Associate Principal (two years), Head of Learning Area HASS (5 years), careers advisor/teacher (20 years), tutor of adult tertiary students (Kurongkurl Katitjin ECU 1998).  A key professional role that I have held has been with the WA Secondary Teaching Administrators' Association as vice president and president (2011 to 2019).

Currently, I am a supervisor of pre-service teachers at ECU.

About Me

When I'm not working with clients, I enjoy walking and sniffing with my dogs, Macey  and  Hugo.  My favourite weekend activity is attending AFL games with my wife.

I have a passion for history - especially military history and I have visited the Western Front battlefields  on  several  occasions (the  photo  above  was  in  2016  when  I  visited  a  school  in  Arras  France).

Services

For Schools

I offer a service in facilitating and presenting professional learning sessions for staff on a range of topics including: use of evidence-based pedagogy, effective behaviour management, classroom  observations  and  walk  throughs,  instructional  intelligence,  metacognition  strategies,  improving & promoting efficacy in school leadership and mental health and wellness.  Sessions can be delivered in 45, 60 or 90 minute time slots.

For presenting professional learning to groups of staff, I charge $120 for a one hour session. For providing lesson observations and giving feedback to teachers, I charge schools $200 per day or $40 per hour (inclusive of briefing and de-briefing with admin staff).

For Individual Students

I am available on an hourly basis to provide tuition for students who are struggling with NAPLAN and OLNA in English (reading comprehension and writing).  I am also keen to work with students on a one-to-one basis to provide career counselling, developing career portfolios and general life coaching.   Optimum time for sessions is 45 minutes but maximum one hour.

For Individual Teachers

I offer an informal and non-threatening mentor relationship to assist teachers to grow in their profession and to further develop their teaching competencies.  I carry out lesson observations and provide valuable feedback.  For beginning teachers and those people aspiring to promotion, there is no fee (gratis and pleased to help!).
